Computers - Machines that manipulate data according to set instructions provided by a program or a person interfacing with the machine. These machines communicate in a binary language of 1’s and 0’s performing sometimes millions of calculations and functions per second. These machines are the hub of Digital Audio Workstations completing the tasks that a software DAW ask it to do. Most studios are only as powerful as their computer that is at the heart of the recording environment.

Mac Computers - Macintosh computers are created by a company called Apple. The special thing about these computers is that Apple makes both the hardware and operating system (OS) software for these machines. This provides better compatibility between the two, but allows for no competition.

PC Computers - PC computers are more correctly called Windows based computers because while the hardware can be made by any manufacturer, the operating system (OS) software (commonly referred to as Windows) is made by a company called Microsoft. This open source hardware world creates countless options, competitive prices, and a world of compatibilty issues.

Linux Based Computers - Linux is an open-source operating system (OS) that is compatible with both Macintosh and PC computers. Linux is free, so it is not marketed or supported by many other software manufacturers. It is usually up to the public to make software function on Linux. Not many recording applications or hardware work on Linux, but the ones that do work very well.
